CUBE ORANGE, by Jakob+MacFarlane
It all started in 2010 under the impetus of its CEO Franck Argentin and its CEO François Basilien, with the support of the Cardinal Group and its founder Jean-Christophe Larose.
“The RBC group, always visionary, is setting up its 6th designer furniture store in Lyon, in the Confluence district, on the banks of the Saône, within the emblematic Cube Orange, designed by the architect duo Jakob+MacFarlane. This hollow cube is covered with a second perforated aluminium skin.
This project consisted of bringing together a showroom dedicated to the world of design objects within the architecture of an existing building: “The intention was to bring together the worlds of architecture, design and the uniqueness of the Lyon site in a single experience. Jakob+MacFarlane decided to take the language of the Cube, based on the movement of the Saône River, and somehow project this movement inside the showroom.
Thus, the space is imagined as an extrapolation of the facade, a river or a virtual three-dimensional volume containing a long porous wall whose 60 ‘cells’ are filled with pieces of designer furniture. This wall wraps around the space of the exhibition hall forming an L. The viewer moves from the spectacular entrance wall to more intimate spaces on the side of the river. Each ‘cell’ is unique in its shape and dimensions, which allows an intimate and private view of each room “.

Installed on the ground floor of Cube Orange, the showroom quickly found its place on the Lyon scene, standing out for its involvement in creating meetings between architects and designers and supporting major projects in the Lyon region, in the valleys and further still. Now entirely dedicated to supporting projects for private clients and professionals, this Lyon design furniture store is structured around 4 complementary spaces: the project counter designed as a space for sharing, co-working in the centre of the showroom, the material library at the service of tailor-made, a contract space and a space dedicated to residential projects.
“These spaces make it possible to showcase the manufacturers and brands with whom RBC works in carefully designed settings “.
The showroom, a temple of designer furniture, echoes the transformation of the district, gradually becoming a collection of buildings with innovative architecture, symbol of a booming city.
At Cube Orange you will be able to find a rigorous selection of emblematic pieces of contemporary furniture, designer pieces of furniture and office furniture, as well as a sharp selection of more confidential brands.
Like the district, RBC Lyon has now become a reference in terms of the development of tertiary spaces and high-end residential projects, offering iconic brands from its opening: Vitra, Knoll, Moooi… as well as the Poliform brand, then unknown to Lyonnais and not distributed in the region.
